The King of Jibberish Now Goes For King of the World

I don't know if I've ever seen anything like it in my lifetime. The list is long of reasons why we don't need Obama as our next President. From endorsements from Farrakhan, Castro, and Rev. Wright to friendships with known terrorists (Ayers), stances on economics and energy that will surely result in us teetering over the edge of the economic cliff that we now sit upon. Obama is the most liberal politician we've ever had. He claims Christianity while voting 100% morally and ethically against Christian principles. Now it seems, due to the media's love affair with him and coverage of his overseas trip, he is not only already President but acts as if he wants to be king of the world.
We need to keep in mind we are only seeing what the media wants us to see.
Evidence is in this video (which you won't see on the news) from a blog I happened upon today. The video shows Obama being heckled in Israel. You can hear Israelis in the background shouting "Obama, Israel is not for sale" and "Obama, Jerusalem is not for sale". Obama goes to the wailing wall looking very uncomfortable. I wonder why he looks so uncomfortable standing in one of the most holy places on earth?
I have a message for Obama: Barack, America is not for sale either!! There are enough well-grounded, logical thinking, moral, die-hard Americans to keep you from screwing up our country more than it already is.

Obama- The King of Political Jibberish

January 17, 2007 Barack Obama said, "I am not persuaded that 20,000 additional troops in Iraq are going to solve the sectarian violence there". He went on to say, "In fact, I think it will do the reverse."
It turned out that the surge worked and was an astounding success. Violent attacks against US troops and Iraqi citizens are down 80%. Over 90% of Iraqi territory is now quite safe.
Obama was asked, knowing what we know now, if he should have supported the surge. He said, "No", and went on to say this:
"Well, no, keep -- these kinds of hypotheticals are very difficult. Hindsight is 20/20. I think what I am absolutely convinced of is that at that time, we had to change the political debate, because the view of the Bush administration at that time was one that I just disagreed with."
Huh? What in the world did that statement even mean? Sounds like just a bunch of political jibberish to me. The thing that gets me about Obama is not only the fact that he is the king of political jibberish, but he also can't admit when he is wrong. It takes a real man to admit he is wrong.
Do we really want someone who is an expert at putting on a facade and spouting off political jibberish to be our next president?

Customer Service at it's worst

12/26/05 I bought a 50" LCD projection TV for $2000. It was really nice to have that big picture and great sound. It was a Hitachi. Hitachi has always been a leader in quality. However, this wasn't true with my TV. Approximately 9 months after buying the TV the lamp went out. It turns out that lamps are not covered by the warranty. I figured no big deal. I'll get a new lamp. I didn't know that lamps cost $250 each! I bought it, put it in myself, and thought everything was good. Then a year and a week after buying the TV the remote quit working. I went back to Circuit City (where I bought the TV) and told them about the remote. I thought they would honor the warranty since it was only a week out of warranty. No such luck. They tried to sell me a universal remote. No thanks.
This story is not over yet. Far from it. At the 2 year old mark of the TV, it started intermittently turning off and then back on. I emailed Hitachi to see what it could be and if they would do something to reverse my now bad opinion of their products. They told me the TV was out of warranty and only could give me a number of a repairman close to me. When I did a search for the repairman on the internet I found out the company had an unsatisfactory report by the Better Business Bureau!
Moral of the story:
Don't buy Hitachi. Not only are their products apparently no longer made with quality, but their customer service leaves something to be desired.
I may as well have taken $2000 and threw it in the river. Which is probably what I'm going to do with this TV.

Obama- Learning as you go

"Flip-flopping" is the new word used a lot recently concerning Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. He has been "flip-flopping" on many issues that he was so stern about during his race with Hillary Clinton. He said early on that he would bring the troops home from Iraq in 16 months. He was very firm on this issue. Now he is saying something totally different (of course he says he hasn't changed his stance). Now he is saying he will have to talk to our military leaders in Iraq and move the troops out in a way that best serves their safety. This makes sense but why didn't he think about this in the first place? Even I can answer that question. He didn't know any better. Obama is learning this thing on the fly. I'll give him this, he is a very smooth talker and almost talked his way out of the troop withdrawal flip-flop. Almost.
Do we actually want an inexperienced "learn as you go" President of the US?

Common Sense escapes from the US Government

Where did our government's common sense go? It escaped and I can't find it but in a few places.

Last week President Bush requested that congress lift the ban on off shore drilling of oil on the outer continental shelf (which would double the current oil production of the US), recommended that we aggressively research drilling for the oil shale deposits in Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming (which experts say holds deposits larger than Saudi Arabia has!!), and drill in ANWR. Why didn't he do this 6 months ago? Wouldn't that have made sense? I voted for Bush and still like him as President. However, I believe Washington common sense (or lack of) has rubbed off on him.
Just one example of lack of common sense: In response to Bush's request, a democratic Florida Congresswoman said she was totally against it because Florida's main source of income is tourism and drilling off the coast would be a threat to the pristine Florida beaches. First of all, there are many oil rigs off the coast of Louisiana and during hurricane Katrina there were no incidents of oil spills. Secondly, If we don't do something to decrease our dependence on foreign oil and the price of gas continues to increase, no one will be driving or flying to Florida because they will not be able to afford it. Makes sense to me but apparently not to a politician. Especially a democratic politician.

It seems the Supreme Court has lost their common sense also. They ruled that the death penalty for the brutal crime of child rape is "unconstitutional". This is terrible. Do these people even have a brain? Do they have children or grandchildren? Regardless of what they say or rule, although I am a Christian man from a Christian family, do something like this to my child and you will invoke the death penalty on yourself.
This Supreme Court lack of common sense brought my attention to Bobby Jindal, Governor of Louisiana and prospective Republican VP candidate. Gov. Jindal outwardly opposed the Supreme Court ruling (click on his name for his words). He also said on Fox News that if the Court ruled against the death penalty in child rape and other cases such as these, they should consider chemical or physical castration as an alternative. When he said this the Fox News reporter said, "don't you think this statement will hurt you politically because some people will look on you as being a radical or extremist?". Jindal told the reporter, "I don't care how it effects me politically, it is the right thing to do". You go Bobby! I'm going to do some more research on Gov. Jindal, but for now I believe he is my favorite along with Huckabee as a McCain running mate. The US government needs to find it's common sense again.

Dad

Father's Day is tomorrow and even though my dad isn't computer literate and will probably never see this, I am going to write about him anyway.
Dad was born in Ellijay, GA (in the N. GA mountains) back in the "moonshine" days. His mother was a God-fearing, praying woman, who is responsible for all of her kids (and probably grand kids) coming to the knowledge of Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. My dad's father was a moonshiner and stayed in prison most of his life. I've heard stories good and bad about my grandfather. The good was that he was a giving man and would see men walking on the side of the road, down on their luck, and let them stay in his house until they got their feet on the ground.
My grandmother passed away due to cancer when my dad was 12. He was raised by one of his older sisters.
A few of things my dad taught me by example or by discipline:
1. He taught me to work. When I was 13 dad came in from work and told me he had me a job. It wasn't "I got you a job if you want it", it was "I got you a job". The job was delivering newspapers. I would deliver them after school Monday-Friday and at 4am on Sunday morning. Accept for the money that I made, I can remember thinking of this as some kind of torture. Today I look at it as one of the best things my dad could have done for me. Even though I don't have any formal education except for High School, I have had a job ever since that paper route. That was 30 years ago.
2. He taught me to go to church and had us there every time the door was opened. Your personal relationship with Jesus Christ should be the first priority in your life. One time when I got old enough to think that it was my decision where to go to church or not I decided I wasn't going and told my mother this when she came to wake me up on Sunday morning. She told my dad, he came to my room and told me I didn't have to go but I would need to pack my clothes because whoever lived in his house was going to church. Needless to say, I went to church.
3. He prayed for me and still does. He doesn't tell me he prays for me. I know because I feel those prayers.

I wish all dads could be like mine and I hope I can be half the man he is.

Glenn Beck for President

Glenn Beck, if you haven’t heard of him, has a show on headline news. Glenn is a “cut to the chase” kind of guy. You should check out his show on CNN Headline News at 7pm or 9pm EST (I believe it also airs throughout the night). Glenn is probably hated by our politicians because he shows how stupid and without common sense most of them are. I’ve written before about drilling for oil here in the US where there are actually two schools of thought. One being the “Boone Pickens” interview Glenn did a month or so ago. Boone says the only thing left for Americans is to aggressively develop alternative fuels because peak oil production topped out in 2006 and it is now on a downward spiral. Since then there have been other experts who say the US has enough oil in Alaska and offshore to last us 125 to 150 years without any reliance on foreign oil. Regardless of who is correct, is it going to hurt us to drill in the areas around the US to find out? A Democratic subcommittee voted yesterday to basically kill drilling for oil off shore on the outer continental shelf. According to a government report from 1998 there are 78 billion barrels of recoverable oil there. 78 billion barrels would last the US 34 years with no reliance on foreign oil. Get it? We wouldn’t have to buy oil from people who want to kill us. This is not including inland places such as ANWR and the recent finds in the Dakotas where there is even more recoverable oil. Sure, this is not a permanent fix, but it would release us from dependence on foreign oil and allow us to aggressively research and put into use alternative fuels. Oh, and by the way, President Clinton received this report in 1998 about the time he had his mind on Monica. He started it then (not drilling for oil in and around the US) and Democrats are continuing it today. Their reason for not drilling off shore; there could be more chances for oil spills into the ocean. That doesn’t even make sense. I’m just a dumb ole southern boy and I can see where an oil tanker coming from the Persian Gulf (half way around the world) has more chances of colliding with something than it would if it were only traveling 500-1000 miles.

If you’re a reader of this blog you know that I am a no nonsense guy. When I see something stupid happening I want to do something about it.

I found a place where we can do a little something about it. It is a site developed by Newt Gingrich (why isn’t Newt running for president?) called American Solutions. You can go there and sign the Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less petition. There are already more than 700,000 people who have signed it. Just think if we get 1 million + to sign the petition Congress has to pay attention.

Wonder what our presidential candidates are saying about gas prices?

Obama yesterday said the price of gasoline isn't the problem. $4 a gallon for gasoline isn't the problem. The high price of oil is not the problem. The problem is it's just risen too quickly. Huh!? Does he even have a clue? And to think people are actually going to vote for him!

McCain (I hope he changes his mind) is for cap and trade, which basically penalizes oil companies for making too much money. They don’t penalize Microsoft for making too much money, why should they penalize oil companies.

I could write all day about this, but for now I’m just going to give Glenn Beck my vote. Wait just a minute. I can’t because he isn’t one of our politicians. He makes too much sense. God Bless the USA!

While We Are Sleeping

While we are "asleep" wondering who will be our next president with all the political mumbo jumbo taking over much of the time on our TV news channels. While we are focused on rising oil prices or, as most do in America, just ignoring all of this altogether while we are in our comfort zone (asleep), there is a growing threat on the very near horizon. I have mentioned Ahmadinejad (the Iranian President) before and how he has stated he "will wipe Israel off the face of the earth". I don't know if I mentioned what else he says. His fight is not only with the "little satan" (Israel) but also with the "big satan" (the US). In his blog Joel Rosenberg says it a lot better than me. Check it our for yourself.
You may think that this is all just normal radical Islamic rhetoric, but keep in mind that Russia signed a $1 billion dollar arms alliance with Iran in 2005. This is not something we need to take lightly. I'm afraid that even our government is not taking this as seriously as they should. I'm just glad that I am awake and won't be surprised when Ahmadinejad's threats become realities. Wake up America!

An Example of the Financial State of Southern Gospel

As it says in the header of this blog, I am a weekend warrior (ie; hold a full time job and sing on the weekends) Southern Gospel singer. I do not take this calling on my life lightly and I don't want this article to diminish the importance of this great music for our society. We need Jesus. Southern Gospel and other Christian music touches the soul of believers and non-believers alike. It is a great avenue for non-believers to learn the hope, love, and truth of Jesus Christ.
I've written for years of the sad financial state of Southern Gospel Music. Like the oil and energy crisis in our country, no one wants to talk about it. When bringing up this topic most want to say, "the Lord will provide". This goes without saying. What most who say this don't understand is that the Lord provides through them, the fans.
Recently a story was brought to my attention by Averyfineline . It seems that Kasey Kemp and Judson Horner, who sing (or did sing) with gospel music legend Naomi Sego, not only put in their resignations to leave Naomi, but also (after resigning) filed an article of organization to create a limited liability company called "The Segos LLC". In other words they were going to steal Naomi's name, use it as their own, and she would no longer be able to use it. You can read the letter that Kemp and Horner released. The letter implies that they were "helping" Naomi out and also plugs their new CD duplication company (don't be looking for my business).
This not only shows that Kemp and Horner apparently were not raised to respect their elders, value Christian principles ("ill-gotten treasures are of no value"), or even respect themselves. It also shows how far the financial state of Southern Gospel can push individuals to make a living. In no way does this dilute the wrong that has been done (and now wants to be taken back, bottom of page) by Kemp and Horner, but it shows how desperate the financial situation of Southern Gospel is. Even honest individuals who have been responsible for bringing many to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, the Southern Gospel "elite", are poor and struggle to make a living. Add rising fuel costs and it even makes it harder for groups to make a living. This is sad to me. I have to keep reminding myself that God is bigger than the oil situation and He is in control. He also gives us common sense. Groups should use this common sense to make sound business decisions concerning their ministry and fans should use this common sense to realize that they can be used to help groups minister.

The True Obama- lying down with dogs

I guess many heard the latest Obama "mentor", Father Pfleger, spouting off his almost demonic "sermon" on youtube or the news channels. Just another example of Obama's flawed and seemingly true self. Most of the media (left wing media) is writing it all off as meaningless to the Obama campaign and tells nothing of his true personality. I'm sorry, but if a man has surrounded himself with people such as Rev. Wright and Father Pfleger and even says the latter has been his "moral compass" his integrity has to be questioned. Especially when these two are also supporters of the Nation of Islam leader and anti-semite, Lewis Farrakhan. Wright and Pfleger, when preaching hate and racism (among other things) to their congregations, should look in their bibles and read what it says about those who lead their children (congregations) astray, "it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea." (Matthew 18:6) Then we come to Bill Ayers. Ayers is also one of Obama's "old friends". Ayers was part of the Weather Underground which bombed the Pentagon, the Capital, and other government buildings in the 70's. You may as well say Ayers is an American terrorist. (more on Ayers)

Just this short list of supporters of Obama should tell us something:

Father Pfleger
Lewis Farrakhan
Fidel Castro
Raul Castro

If they were alive you could probably add Hitler and Stalin to this list. I'm sure if you asked the Iranian president, Ahbaminejad and North Korea's Pyongyang who they wanted for President of the US they would back Obama also.
I ask those Americans who are voting for Obama: Why would you want a man like this to be president? Do you not value the safety, security, and sanctity of life we have? I know things in the US are far from perfect, but I am afraid our nation will fall with a man whose true self is far from what you are seeing on TV. To those who think his friends, mentors, and pastors have nothing to do with who he really is, all I can say is "lie down with dogs and you will get up with fleas".

Glenn Beck - You've probably seen Glenn's show on Headline News. Glenn always has common sense people on his show. Glenn seeks solutions to problems facing us all instead of talking about Hillary and Obama all the time the way other shows do.

Joel Rosenberg- Prophetic fiction

The title "Prophetic fiction" is an oxymoron but I don't know any other way to put it.

Joel Rosenberg, a New York times best-selling author of books such as The Last Jihad, Epicenter, Dead Heat, The Last Days, and The Ezekial Option really caught my eye in the last couple of months. He is a Jewish born Christian who served as communications strategist for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu among others.
All of Joel's books are fiction except for Epicenter. Although he does not claim to be a bible theologian or have any visions about endtimes Bible prophecy, his books have proven to be to the contrary.
The Last Jihad, which on the first page puts you into the cockpit of a hijacked jet on a kamikaze attack into an American city and a war with Saddam Hussein over weapons of mass destruction. The book went on bookshelves 6 months before 9/11.
The Last Days opens with the death of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and a US diplomatic convoy is ambushed in Gaza. 6 days before The Last Days was published a US diplomatic convoy was ambushed in Gaza. Thirteen months later Yasser Arafat died.
The Ezekial Option is about a Russian Dictator who forms a military alliance with Iran's leaders who are pursuing nuclear weapons and are vowing to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. On the very day the book was published Iran elected a new leader (Ahbajinebad) who vowed to accelerate the country's nuclear weapons pursuits and vowed to "wipe Israel off the face of the earth". 6 months after the book was published Russia signed a $1 billion arms deal with Tehran.

I know as Christians we should be skeptical of any written word except the Word of God, but how can you ignore the truth that has played out in these novels? I know I will be reading all Joel's books and will be keeping a watchful eye on unfolding world events.

The Crisis that no one wants to talk about

I must say the rising price of gas is consuming me. Not only because it is hitting my wallet but because I hear people complain about gas prices but then change the subject to something else. Or just say, "well hopefully the price will come down soon". That is one of the problems with Americans. For years we have lulled ourselves to sleep thinking there is an endless supply of oil and our lives will just go on the way they always have. In doing a little online research about oil I came upon some interesting things from reliable sources.
Ever heard of Boone Pickens? He is a Texas oil billionaire who is now out of oil. Why? The answer in his words "what I do believe in is we are out of cheap oil. We are out of the, you know, the bubbling crude where, you know, Jed goes out and he's shooting some varmint and all of a sudden up comes bubbling crude? That's done. That's over. The cheap oil is gone. There's plenty of oil left but it's deep sea oil, it's difficult to get or it's heavy crude. So it costs a lot more to pull out. So the days of cheap gas are over."

An excerpt of Glenn Beck's (Headline News) Boone Pickens interview:
"So Boone, $150 a barrel by the end of this year, when does this break the back of the economy? And he looked at me dead serious and with all soberness and said, we're there. He said, we're at an emergency. He said, just, nobody will talk about it. Nobody will recognize it. Nobody will say it. We're at a full-fledged energy emergency right now. He said, we need an Eisenhower highway project. We need somebody with vision. I said, so wait a minute. Why is it that the people that we have in power aren't going there? He said, I have no idea."

I don't want to sound like "Chicken Little", but of all people Boone Pickens knows energy and oil. Someone needs to be talking about this crisis. Americans need to wake up. This is not going away. I just wonder how high gas will have to go before our citizens and our government wakes up. Gas prices effect the price of everything. Plus, there will come a time (probably very soon) when it not only makes prices go up but trucks stop running to bring food and other products to us.

It happened to me today: I was going to get the propane tank for my grill filled. The station was out of propane because the truck that brings it to the station had to cut the amount of trips it makes per month in half because of high fuel prices.

Change your ways and just stay home

You can't turn on the TV without seeing something about rising gas prices. If you watch enough of the economists and "experts" on the subject it seems everyone has a different opinion as to why oil prices are at an all time high. Some say the oil is running out. Some say it is the oil companies. Some say it is OPEC (I don't even know what that stands for? In my mind OPEC=rich Arabs). Some say it has to do with supply and demand. Some say at this time it has nothing to do with supply and demand. Who knows? I do not know enough about economics to even make an educated argument about what the problem is. It is a no-brainer that we need to aggressively research alternative fuels and quit "tree-hugging" and drill for oil that we have in the US. However, even if we find alternative fuels, it will take years for manufacturing of these fuels to catch up with demand. The same goes with drilling for oil in the US. I heard somewhere if we tapped the oil that is available in Alaska it would still take 5 years for the oil to get to consumers.
So what do we do right now?
We change our ways and stay home as much as possible. We go to work, the grocery store, church, and straight back home. Spend more time with your family. We change the mindset of thinking we have to go somewhere to entertain ourselves. Watch DVDs that you get from one of those online video rental places where they deliver them to you. Play Monopoly. Exercise. Have a family bible study. Etc.
Memorial Day weekend is coming up and I've heard so many of my friends say they are going on a trip. Do you really have to? Is it really going to hurt you just to stay home?
This may make me into a bad guy but I'm going to say it anyway. If you own an SUV to carry around one child in, if you are going on a vacation this Memorial Day, if you are not consolidating your trips (ie. buy groceries on the way home from work), you have no right at all to complain about gas prices because you are contributing to high gas prices yourself. I have been guilty of all of these things in the past, but me and my wife have made a decision to just stay home. If you want to pay less for gas you will too.

Out of the mouths of babes and convicted felons

A couple of little funny tidbits that I heard in the last several weeks. Both were from the road.

1. We were leaving a church not long ago after singing at a homecoming when my 12 year old son, Ben said he was going to invent a new Baptist flag. I asked him what the flag would have on it. He responded very seriously, "A giant fried chicken leg"
(Homecoming: a service celebrating the anniversary of the establishment of a church where there is great preaching and singing. Afterwards you go and eat yourselves into oblivion due to the great cooks they have in most churches).

2. We were singing at an unusual church not long ago. The church was started by a pastor with great insight and courage. It consists of mostly recovering drug addicts, single parents, paroled convicted felons, etc. We attended a Sunday School class before the service. The pastor lead the class and started with scripture and then turned it over to those attending for comment. One black man wanted to talk about the upcoming presidential election. He started out by saying he was a convicted felon so he had lost his right to vote forever. He added that this didn't bother him too much this year because there was no one to vote for. He also added, "Me being a black man, I would love to see a black man become president. But, if I could vote, I would not vote for Obama Bin Laden"

The Davis Trio

The Davis Trio is the southern gospel group I sing with. It consists of me, my brother (personal spell checker and tenor), and my dad. Me and my brother are the leaders of the group and we let my dad think he is (I can only say that because he is computer illiterate, Bless his heart). We do approx. 70 concerts per year, have 4 CDs out, and will start recording our latest tomorrow. We are weekend warriors. We work full-time jobs through the week and sing 1-3 times per weekend. Gospel music is our calling. God has really used us as His instrument over the years. He has blessed us in so many ways.

Lay-offs and Lessons

At this time in America I am probably not the only one in this boat. Approximately 1-1/2 years ago, after putting in 21 years at a dead-end job, I decided it was time for a career change. My pay was frozen for 5 years and things for me and my family were not getting better financially they were getting worse. My job was Assistant Security Director at a major hospital. Even though it wasn't on my job description, I was given responsibility over the CCTV system, the infant monitoring system, and the access control system along with my other responsibilities of supervision of 30+ employees, payroll, accounts payable, etc. etc. I didn't complain too much about the added responsibility at the time because I was gaining experience in another field and saw it as a stepping stone to bigger and better things. After acquiring some experience I landed a job with a commercial CCTV, Access control installation company as an Installation Tech. I was making $5 more per hour and enjoyed my job. However, it was short-lived. After the first of the year, I guess because of the economy, jobs became scarce and I was laid off. I was told by the owner of the company that I was the most honorable employee he had ever had in 15 years of business, but he needed to keep the most experienced employees (there were only two left!). That is the end of the "Lay-off" part.
Here is the "Lesson" part. After losing my job I seriously thought about going on unemployment and holding out for the economy to get better. The thing is though, I hold the benefits for my family. There are no benefits when you are on unemployment and who knows when the economy is going to get better. I never lost contact with the guys at the hospital where I put in 21 years and when talking to them I was told there was a position open on 3rd shift. Long story long I took the job, the $5+ an hour cut, and the benefits. Now instead of 2nd in command, I am in command of nothing, but I have a job. That is more than many people can say in this country. The "Lesson" is simply don't burn bridges. Someday you may have to turn around and cross back over again.

Therapy

I guess everyone who starts a blog wonders if anyone will read it. Maybe I will just be typing away for nothing? Really though, it's not just about whether people read it or not (although that would be nice to have feedback about what you are writing about). I believe a lot of the desire to blog comes from a therapeutic standpoint. I will be the first to tell you that my (hopefully) day to day blogging will be me complaining about things and trying to get my point across. I guess you could call it venting online. Writing has always been a release for me. Just consider this my first release (no pun intended).
